Rates notices on their way from 14 August 2018

Budget

Golden Plains Shire rates notices will be distributed from mid-August, and ratepayers are encouraged to keep an eye out.

Local government has a responsibility to provide access to services and infrastructure for the benefit of all members of the community, and rates are a property tax raised to fund these services and to provide and maintain infrastructure.

Rates need to be paid in full before 15 February 2019, or by four instalments – the instalment amounts, due dates and payment options are shown on your rates notice.

The 2018-19 rate cap has been set by the Minister for Local Government at 2.25%; while individual ratepayer’s increases may be more or less than this, the average Golden Plains Shire rate increase is 2.25% and meets the rate cap.

Please note this cap only applies to your General Rates and Municipal Charge and not any of the additional charges on your rate notice.

Your rates explained

We have put together a ‘Your rates explained’ flyer, a handy hub of rates facts and information, which provides information on:

  • What your rates are spent on
  • 2018 property valuations
  • Pension rebate eligibility
  • The garbage charge and the national recycling crisis
  • General rates
  • Municipal charge
  • Fire Services Levy, and more.
