RATES NOTICES COMING SOON

Budget

Golden Plains Shire Council rates notices are being issued from mid-August, so now is a great time to refresh your understanding of Council’s rates process and how rate capping affects you.

As you may already know, Local Government has a responsibility to provide access to services and infrastructure for the benefit of all members of the community. Rates are a property tax raised to fund these services and to provide and maintain infrastructure.

Your rates notice
Council’s rates notices will be distributed from mid-August to ratepayers. As mentioned on your notice, rates need to be paid in full before 15 February 2017, or by four instalments – the instalment amounts, due dates and payment options are shown on your rates notice.

Understanding rates
Rates are a complicated business, particularly with the implementation of State Government rate capping, so Council and the Municipal Association of Victoria (MAV) have put together resources to help ratepayers understand the process.
