Following extensive consultation with the community, Council has developed a concept design of the proposed Smythesdale Sub-Regional Play Space at the Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve, with community members invited to provide commentary on the proposed design.

Residents were invited to have their say on what they would like to see as part of the design through a community survey which was open to the public in September 2022.

Features included in the concept design that were identified as important to users of the Play Space and broader community include a play tower and multi play unit, range of swings and flying fox, natural and sensory play elements, spinning, jumping and climbing play equipment, exercise equipment, sand play area, scooter circuit trail, seating and shade areas, accessible barbeques and picnic facilities and a central accessible path.

The concept design also features amenities such as a toilet facility, accessible path connection to the Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve and Ballarat-Skipton Rail Trail, safe crossing points, accessible car parking spaces, a bike maintenance station, wayfinding signage and security lighting.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham encouraged residents to provide feedback on the proposed concept designs.

Thank you to all the residents who took the time to give their feedback on the proposed Play Space in Smythesdale last year. Concept designs have been developed and reflect what people in our northern communities wanted to see at the Play Space.

Council welcomes residents’ input on the concept design and we look forward to finalising the design with the support of the community.

The new central Play Space will cater to a diverse range of age groups and greatly service townships in the north of the Shire. Council will continue to advocate at a State and Federal level for funding to deliver the proposed Play Space which will be located at the Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve.

The concept design of the proposed Play Space is on public exhibition until 5pm, Tuesday 30 May, with residents invited to provide commentary on the proposed design.

People can also view the concept design on Councils website: goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations and it will also be available at Councils Customer Hubs at 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn and 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.
