Volunteers from Golden Plains are being celebrated in the Volunteers in Action photographic exhibition, which is currently on display at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre before it travels up north to Smythesdale later this year.

The Volunteers in Action exhibition aims to capture moments that go unnoticed and highlight the everyday, helping the community gain a new appreciation for the contributions volunteers make to Golden Plains Shire.

The photographs in the exhibition were captured by 2021 Spring in the Shire photography winner Lyn Steel, who visited volunteers in their communities to photograph them doing what they love and showcase the spirit of volunteerism.

Each photograph is accompanied by a short profile of the volunteer, from Elaine the Community Coordinator in Maude who became a volunteer because she was interested in helping the local community and people, to bus driver Stephen who loves the friendly and happy chatter in the minibus when it is full.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble encouraged the local residents to visit the exhibition and celebrate the ongoing contribution of volunteers to the Golden Plains Shire community.

“The Volunteers In Action exhibition champions the vital work of volunteers in the Golden Plains community and celebrates their diverse offerings and unwavering generosity.

“Council recognizes the important role volunteers play in delivering some of our most essential services and programs, and this exhibition is an opportunity to showcase their work and for the community to gain a new appreciation of our volunteers by sharing in their stories.

Thank you to Lyn Steel who, as the winner of the 2021 Spring In The Shire photography competition, captured the images for this special exhibition."

The Volunteers in Action exhibition will be on display at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre, 27 High Street, Bannockburn until Friday 26 August before moving to The Well, 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale, where it will be on display from Thursday 1 September until Wednesday 30 November.
