Online Edible Gardens Program Returns

Edible Gardens Webinars Golden Growers

Following successful webinar series in August and November last year, Golden Plains Shire Council’s popular Edible Gardens program will return with a new, free webinar series this month.

Part of the Golden Plains Shire Council Golden Growers initiative, the series will feature three workshops about how to create a sustainable edible garden at home that will provide fresh home-grown produce, without the use of chemicals.

The webinars will explore how gardeners can make their garden more environmentally friendly and the impacts of soil and fertilisers on health and the environment, while also preparing gardeners to plant the perfect Golden Plains winter garden.

The third session will include a question-and-answer session with series host and qualified horticulturist Craig Castree. With more than 45 years’ experience in crafting his own organic foods at home, Craig provides practical, easy and affordable edible gardening solutions.

The Edible Gardens Online Workshops 3.0 webinar series is suitable for beginners, people wanting to improve their gardening skills and gardeners who want to become more environmentally friendly. The Edible Gardens webinars will run from 7 to 8pm, Thursdays on 26 May, 2 and 9 June, 2022.

To register, visit goldenplains.vic.gov.au/edible-gardens or email [email protected]

Attendees of all three sessions in the series will enter the draw to win Craig Castree’s book, Growing and Grafting Fruit Trees for the Aussie Backyard.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble says the webinar series is a great way for new gardeners to learn more about sustainable gardening practices in Golden Plains Shire.

“Council received great feedback from participants following the Edible Gardens webinars last year and it’s great to have Craig Castree returning to the program to share his valuable experience in growing environmentally-friendly edible gardens.

“Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced gardener, this is the perfect time to learn how to build an edible garden and grow delicious, healthy produce sustainably in your own backyard. As the cooler months are approaching, the free webinars will help local gardeners adapt and prepare their edible gardens for a winter harvest, tailored to the Golden Plains environment.”
