The final two stages of the Meredith-Shelford Road Widening Project are set to begin on Monday 3 October, 2022.

Stage 4 and 5 will include the widening of approximately 4.65 kilometres of Meredith-Shelford Road south of Meredith, alongside major culvert upgrade works and the installation of guard fencing, completing the staged 10.5-kilometre upgrade of the road.

Meredith-Shelford Road will be closed for the duration of the works between the intersections of Meredith-Shelford Road and Green Trent Road, and Meredith-Shelford Road and Meredith-Mount Mercer Road.

Detours will be in place during the road closure and drivers are advised to travel safely, obey reduced speed limits and the directions of traffic controllers, and be considerate of road workers and other traffic.

Rubbish collection will continue as usual throughout the duration of the project, with residents advised to place bins in their normal position on rubbish collection day. Bins unable to be collected will be moved by a contractor to an accessible location and then returned to its normal collection point.

The project is expected to be completed by December 2022, with works be carried out from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

The final two stages of the project are funded by phase three of the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.

The Meredith-Shelford Road Widening Project commenced in 2020, with funding from the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery Program. Since 2020, three stages of works have been undertaken to widen and resurface approximately 6-kilometres of Meredith-Shelford Road, with Stage 3 of the project completed in January 2021.

At a total of $4.38 million, the road widening project has been supported by the Australian Government, with $1.95 million from the Roads to Recovery program and $1.65 million in LRCI phase 3 funding, alongside $783,333 from the Victorian Government’s AgriLinks Upgrade Program.
