Environment

Golden Plains Shire Council will host a free environmentally focused Photography and Plant Identification workshop titled ‘Photo[Synthesis]’ for residents to capture the environmental significance of the local flora and fauna of Golden Plains.

Open to all residents, of all photography abilities, the workshop will be held on Saturday 12 August at the Don Wallace Teesdale Grassy Woodlands Reserve, 1164 Bannockburn-Shelford Road, Teesdale, from 10am until 12pm.

Participants of the workshop will not only develop their photography skills in the natural environment, but also gain a deeper knowledge of local native and non-native plant species. The ‘Photo[synthesis]’ workshop will be led by members of the Golden Plains Youth Activation Committee (YAC) who recently captured photographs for the

Volunteers in Action photo exhibition, currently on display at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre. Landcare member Stuart McCallum and Golden Plains Shire Council Natural Resources Officer Dale Smithyman will provide expert knowledge on the natural environment and photographic expertise will be provided by Council’s Youth Development Officer (& Photographer) Helena Walsh, along with YAC members.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham encouraged residents of all photography abilities to register for the Photo[synthesis] workshop to enhance their photography skills as well as their knowledge of the local flora and fauna.

“The Photo[synthesis] workshop is a fantastic opportunity for budding photographers of all levels, or those with an interest in the environment, to get out and about in the Shire and capture the local native and non-native plant species here in Golden Plains.

“Participants of the workshop will also be eligible for entry in Council’s Spring in the Shire Photography competition, which is set to return in 2023. I look forward to seeing the photographs that are captured on the day.”

Photos captured as part of the workshop will also be eligible for entry in the Golden Plains Shire Council’s Spring in the Shire photography competition, returning in 2023. The Spring in the Shire photography competition is an opportunity for photographers from across the Shire to showcase their talents by capturing the beautiful surrounds and vibrant communities of Golden Plains.

This year’s competition theme Photo[synthesis], has an environmental focus and photographers of any skill level are encouraged to capture this theme through their lens.

Participants are required to bring their own device to capture photos (camera, phone etc.) and it is recommended they bring a bottle of water, and wear appropriate walking attire including hat, shoes and sunscreen.
