Local creatives knit for the homeless

Arts, Culture & Heritage

Smythesdale’s creative Cuppa ‘n’ Craft group have shown their true (and amazing) colours – and we are delighted.

Recently, with a kind donation of wool from a community member, the Cuppa ‘n’ Craft group knitted beanies, scarves, neck warmers and rugs for the less-fortunate.

Their gorgeous, handmade pieces will be delivered to the ‘SoupBus’ in Ballarat, which provides an after-dark meal service to Ballarat’s homeless and less fortunate through the cooperation and support of the Ballarat community.

The SoupBus aims to create dignified and respectful interaction with those in our community who are in need of the greatest assistance. Five evenings a week, one of the supporting restaurants, cafes and bakeries assist in food preparation for the SoupBus to distribute free of charge from the central Ballarat location.

Golden Plains Shire Council is very appreciate for the efforts of the Cuppa ‘n’ Craft group (and the SoupBus) who are spreading sunshine even in the middle of this particularly cold winter.

The Cuppa ‘n’ Craft group meets every Monday (10am-12pm) at The Well, 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.
