As daylight hours get shorter, local young people will be able to skate, scoot and ride safely in the evening with the installation of lighting at the recently upgraded Bannockburn Skate Park.

The new lights are operational from 6am to 9pm and can be activated by a push button bollard located next to the lockers. Once activated the lights will come on for a two-hour period, after which two light poles will switch off, prompting users to re activate the bollard. If the bollard is not reactivated, the remaining two lights will go out after a further five minutes.

The installation of lighting marks the completion of the final element of the $450,000 skate park upgrade, which was officially opened in March.

Alongside the installation of lighting, the upgrade included new skate elements including quarter pipes, ramps, boxes and rails, as well as a new shade shelter, drinking fountain, bike racks, lockers, safety signage, seating, landscaping and electrical works. Repairs to the existing concrete slab were also completed.

The Bannockburn Skate Park Upgrade was a partnership project with funding from the Victorian and Australian Governments. The project was funded by a $250,000 Community Safety Infrastructure grant from the Victorian Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program, and $199,900 from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
