Keeping Councillors and Community Connected

Councillor Engagement Program 2022
Engagement
Media Release

The Golden Plains Shire Councillor engagement program continues with upcoming Councillor Conversation Posts and community group meetings.

As the Councillor engagement program continues, Councillors will hold a conversation post at the Golden Plains Farmers’ Market from 8.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday 7 May at the corner of Milton Street and High Street, Bannockburn. Residents are encouraged to stop by to speak directly with their elected representatives and share their views on the Draft Council Budget 2022/23, which is currently on public exhibition. Councillors will also host two online Councillor Conversation Posts in July and October 2022.

In 2021, Council launched the Connecting Councillors and Community Groups program, which provided community groups and local organisations with the opportunity to have a Councillor attend one of their meetings. As a resolution of Council and a continuation of their commitment to community engagement, Councillors are again welcoming invitations from community groups and local organisations.

This initiative is a valuable opportunity for Councillors to listen and learn more about individual groups in Golden Plains Shire, their work in the local community, and current ideas and challenges for the group. The attending Councillors will also be available to speak directly with group members and will report back to Council on the group and their engagement experience.

Golden Plains Shire Councillors are available to attend community group meetings across the Shire from May to December 2022. The initiative is open to local progress associations, community service groups (eg. Lions, Rotary, etc.), interest groups (eg. environmental, Landcare, historical societies, etc.), and community activity groups (eg. Scouts, Probus, CWA, etc.). Community groups interested in having a Councillor attend a meeting are encouraged to make a request by contacting [email protected] or calling 5220 7113.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble encouraged residents and local community groups and associations to participate in the upcoming Councillor engagement initiative.

“It’s been a great start to the year for our Councillor group, getting out and about to engage directly with our communities as part of our Coffee with your Councillor initiative and recent Councillor Conversation Post, which saw us visit 10 towns across the Shire throughout February. Now, we’re looking forward to the upcoming in-person and online conversation posts and the opportunity to attend local community group meetings.

“As a Councillor group, we are committed to continuing a strong engagement program, with a variety of ways for residents to share their ideas and issues with us. It’s been great to attend local community group meetings through the Connecting Councillors and Community Groups program and we are eager to listen and learn more about local challenges and opportunities from the groups who do so much great work in the Golden Plains community.

“We hope that all local associations and groups will submit a request to participate and look forward to meeting more residents of Golden Plains Shire during the remainder of 2022.”
