Golden Plains Shire Council is conducting a new Expression of Interest process for the activation and management of the Linton Community Hub

In December 2020 and January 2021, Council invited local residents to guide the management, activation and future use of the prominent building, and eight community members joined an initial exploratory group. Following a number of meetings in 2021, the group did not resolve to form a Committee of Management and Council is re-opening the Expression of Interest process with new options available.

In order to ensure the building remains active and accessible to the community, Council is inviting interested residents or community groups to form a new committee for the whole building or part of the following spaces:

  • Shire Council Chamber Hall, Anti-Room and Kitchen
  • Shire Office Space, including two offices and reception area
  • Former Health area, including Anti-Room/Reception and Main Room/Storage
  • Former Golden Plains Arts Room

Interested community members or organisations are invited to apply from 29 October to 26 November 2021. To apply, community members or organisations can download the Expression of Interest form on Council’s website, fill out the form in the November edition of the Linton News or collect a hard-copy at Council’s Smythesdale Customer Service Centre at 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale. Completed forms must be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to Golden Plains Shire Council, PO Box 111, Bannockburn, VIC 3331 - marked 'Urgent - application' by 5pm, Friday 26 November, 2021. The Expression of Interest form can also be completed online at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations.

For further information regarding the management of Linton Shire Hall or to book a site visit of the spaces during the day or evening, please contact Council’s Facilities Officer on 5220 7111 or [email protected].

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Helena Kirby encouraged locals interested in activating the Linton Shire Hall to apply.

“The Linton Community Hub has a prominent place in the heart of Linton, and Council is looking for enthusiastic locals to help ensure the historic building is an active and vibrant community facility. The Committee will manage and activate the facility, including facilitating community bookings and room usage.

“This time round, community members can express their interest in the whole building or individual parts of the hub, such as the Council Chamber or arts room.

“If you are committed to ensuring the Linton Community Hub is active and accessible to the community, please apply to join the new Committee of Management before 26 November. Council looks forward to establishing the new Committee in 2022 and a successful future for the Linton Community Hub.”

Once home to the old Shire of Grenville, the Linton Community Hub was most recently used as a limited Customer Service Centre, meeting space and office for Council. Following an upgrade to Council’s Smythesdale Customer Service Centre at The Well to allow for a full-time service, customer services were transitioned out of the building in 2020.
