Council’s Active Ageing and Inclusion Advisory Group is inviting community members to join the group and provide valuable information surrounding access and inclusion for people living, working or visiting the Shire.

The Active Ageing and Inclusion Advisory Group acts as a resource to Council on issues affecting people with all abilities which may limit access or inclusion and recommends best practice solutions to issues of concern within Golden Plains Shire.

The advisory group plays an important role in the consultation, development, monitoring and implementation of the Golden Plains Shire Council Active Ageing and Inclusion Plan 2020-2024, which provides a framework, strategies, and objectives for Council to work towards making the community and services more inclusive and accessible over future years.

Community members interested in joining are invited to complete an Expression of Interest outlining their connection to the local community, knowledge of access and inclusion barriers in the community and attributes and skills that are relevant to the group.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble encouraged all interested community members to consider nominating themselves for the Active Ageing and Inclusion Advisory Group.

“By volunteering your time to Council’s Active Ageing and Inclusion Advisory Group, you are contributing to a more inclusive and accessible Golden Plains for all.

“The Active Ageing and Inclusion Advisory Group provides valuable insight to Council on issues affecting people with all abilities in Golden Plains. Council is looking forward to ongoing consultation with the Advisory Group and I would strongly encourage relevant community members to nominate themselves.

Expressions of interest can be made online or hard copies can be collected from Council’s Customer Hubs at 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn and 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.

Hard copies can be returned by email to [email protected] or by mail to Golden Plains Shire Council, PO Box 111, Bannockburn, VIC 3331 – marked ‘Active Ageing and Inclusion Advisory Group 2022 Expression of Interest’.

Expressions of interest close at 5pm, Friday 9 December. For more information, contact Council’s Active Ageing and Inclusion team at [email protected] or 5220 7151.

Community members are also invited to stop by the Smythesdale Country Market on Saturday 19 November to discuss the Active Ageing and Inclusion Advisory Group and share their ideas on how Council can improve access and inclusion in the Shire.
