Golden Plains Shire Council is supporting the community to get active during April and May with the new Get Active Golden Plains program.

The inclusive Get Active Golden Plains program aims to support the health and wellbeing of Golden Plains Shire residents by providing opportunities across the Shire for participation in activities to suit all skills levels. The program allows community members to explore new ways to move with a range of different activities that encourage movement and social connection.

Community members will be able to participate in activities including tai chi, Pickle Ball, Afro Latin Dance, yoga and GENKI Fit Step. The program also aligns with the Active Golden Plains program, with residents able to register to participate in Cardio Drumming sessions in Rokewood and Dereel, and additional sessions in new locations.

Sessions will be held in Dereel, Meredith, Rokewood, Ross Creek, Inverleigh, Teesdale, Haddon, Smythesdale and Bannockburn, to encourage community members in all corners of Golden Plains to be more physically active. There are no restrictions on participation, with activities open to all ages and abilities. Free transport will be available to support access to the program, with bookings essential.

The Get Active Golden Plains program begins on Monday 4 April with Tai Chi at the Dereel Soldiers Memorial Hall, 14 Swamp Road, Dereel, with sessions offered weekly until the program concludes on Tuesday 10 May.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble encouraged community members to register for the program and get active over the next six-weeks.

“Council is committed to providing opportunities to improve the physical and social wellbeing of our communities. The new Get Active Golden Plains program is a great way for residents of all ages and abilities to participate in physical activity.

“We encourage residents to get involved and give it a go.  With a diverse range of fun and inclusive activities, Get Active Golden Plains provides a safe environment to participate and try something new. The program aims to remove barriers our residents may face to participating in physical activity, with sessions in locations across the Shire and free community transport available.”

Registrations are now open for the Get Active Golden Plains program. All community members in Golden Plains are invited to register for any of program’s activities by visiting goldenplains.vic.gov.au/get-active.
