Council’s Bridge Replacement program advances, with the tender for the replacement of Hendersons Road Bridge in Bamganie awarded at the February Council Meeting earlier this week.

The existing single-lane bridge has deteriorated resulting in a load limit being applied for safety reasons. Despite ongoing maintenance efforts, the concrete surface of the bridge has a gravel overlay and continues to deteriorate, resulting in hazardous potholes. Recent damage to the guardrail and bridge edges has occurred with temporary water barriers in place for safety.

Council awarded $742,401 to Road and Bridge Pty Ltd for the replacement of the bridge which includes a new seven-metre-wide two-lane bridge deck spanning 20 metres across Wilsons Creek using prestressed concrete bridge girders. The existing columns in the waterway will be removed and bridge’s alignment will be modified to improve access and sight distance with guardrails installed on both approaches.

The project is funded from Round 6 of the Federal Government’s Bridge Replacement Program (80% of construction costs) with additional funding from Council’s Bridge Replacement program.

Pending manufacture of bridge components, Council anticipates works to begin in March, with the new bridge scheduled to open mid-2024.
