Have your say on Three Trails Project

Major Projects

As plans for the Three Trails Project are developed, Council is seeking feedback from users of the Ballarat–Skipton Rail Trail, Kuruc a Ruc Trail and Rainbow Bird Trail.

The Three Trails Project will improve and upgrade three significant multi-use trails: Ballarat–Skipton Rail Trail, Kuruc a Ruc Trail and Rainbow Bird Trail. Popular with local and visiting walkers, hikers, cyclists and horse-riders, the trails span a total of 101km and connect 15 different townships and communities across Golden Plains Shire, as well as City of Ballarat and Corangamite Shire.

The Three Trails Project will upgrade and improve the current trail infrastructure, as well as design and installation of new supportive infrastructure, including: signage; shelters, seating, picnic tables and chairs; decking upgrades; safety corrals at major highway crossings; culvert and bridge upgrades; spray seal of trail sections; upgrades to the Pittong Sleepover; installation of trail counters for data collection; and environmental works including tree trimming.

Council is seeking feedback from walkers, cyclists, horse-riders and community members who love and value to trails, to ensure the works have the greatest benefit for local residents and visitors. The Three Trails Project engagement is open from 26 April to 26 May, 2021. The digital survey is available for completion or download at Council’s Have Your Say webpage.

Paper surveys are also available at Council’s Customer Service Centres: 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn and 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale. Completed surveys can be returned by: email to [email protected]; mail to Golden Plains Shire Council, PO Box 111, Bannockburn, VIC, 3331, marked ‘Attention: Three Trails Project’; or at a Council Service Centre.

Trail users community members are invited to have their say at in-person consultation sessions on Sunday 23 May, from 10am to 2pm. The three consultation posts will be held at three trail locations near:

  • Smythesdale Hut, Heales Street
  • Avalon Nursery, Haddon
  • Dereel Community Hall, Swamp Road

Signs featuring a QR code linking to the survey have also been installed on the three trails to collect valuable feedback from trail users.
