Golden Plains Shire Council is inviting community members to share their thoughts on the proposed Smythesdale Sub-Regional Play Space project.

Council is currently in the early stages of planning for a new sub-regional play space in Smythesdale. Located at the Woady Yaloak Recreation Reserve, the proposed Smythesdale Sub-Regional Play Space will deliver a new central play space, with public amenities, in Smythesdale that caters to a diverse range of age groups and services townships in the north of the Shire.

The project aims to increase opportunities for social connection and inclusion for residents and users, and will support the health and wellbeing of the Golden Plains community.

An important part of the early project planning stages is the development of concept plans, which will support Council’s advocacy for the play space. Council will develop concept plans for the play space and supporting infrastructure, under guidance and input from the community, to provide a scope, options and costings for progressing the potential project.

Council is currently seeking funding to deliver the design and construction of the proposed $2.25 million project.

To ensure the Smythesdale Sub-Regional Play Space Project meets the need of the community, Council is inviting community members to share their thoughts on the project and identify their priorities for the play space.

The Smythesdale Sub-Regional Play Space survey is open from Friday 16 September to 12pm, Friday 14 October and can be made online at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations, or by picking up a hard copy survey at Council’s Customer Hub at The Well, 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble encouraged residents in the north of the Shire to complete the survey and share their ideas for the play space.

“The proposed Smythesdale Sub-Regional Play Space will establish a fantastic destination play space to keep residents in our northern townships connected and active.

“To ensure the proposed play space meets the expectations of the community, Council has opened a community survey and we look forward to hearing from locals in Smythesdale and our other northern towns with their thoughts and ideas for the play elements and infrastructure at the play space.

“Council is currently seeking funding to deliver the design and construction of the proposed $2.25 million project. We will continue to advocate to our local members at a State and Federal level, and will highlight this priority project to candidates during the upcoming State Election.”
