Council is encouraging all residents of Batesford and surrounding communities to have their say on the future of the Moorabool River Reserve in Batesford.
The Moorabool River Reserve Masterplan survey is now open and is designed to capture how the Reserve is currently used by residents, and what environmental, recreational and management activities people would like to see into the future.
The newly acquired Reserve encompasses 17 hectares of public open space along 2.5 kilometres of the Moorabool River at the Riverstone Estate in Batesford. Rich in biodiversity and cultural significance, the Reserve provides habitat for native wildlife while providing valuable open space for the community and passive recreational opportunities.
Council has secured $60,000 through the Victorian Government’s Barwon and Waterways of the West Grant Program to develop a Masterplan for the Reserve.
Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said the survey was an opportunity for local residents to help shape an important environmental and community space.
“The Moorabool River Reserve in Batesford is a vibrant community space, and the Moorabool River Reserve Masterplan survey will help Council understand how this space is used and identify opportunities for environmental and recreational development.
“I would encourage all residents of Batesford and surrounding communities who use the Reserve to complete the survey to share your thoughts and ideas on how Council can ensure the Reserve’s environmental protection and growth for both native wildlife and the community.”
The survey can be completed online at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations or hard copies can be collected from Council’s Customer Hub at 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn.

The survey is now open and closes 5pm, Monday 9 January 2023.
