Golden Plains Shire Council has awarded Community Strengthening Grants to 16 Golden Plains community groups in Round One of the 2022 program.

Council awarded a combined $78,346 to the successful groups to deliver 17 projects across 4 categories: Environment and Sustainability, Healthy Active Living, Community Safety, and Creative Community.

The successful groups were announced to the community at the Council Meeting on Tuesday 28 June, with the Councillors sharing the good news with a statement on each of the successful projects.

In this round, grants were allocated to 16 local organisations, ranging from the Friends of the Woady Landcare Group to the Inverleigh Historical Society. The supported projects include a welcome sculpture in Wallinduc, upgrading of local community facilities, rivers and reserves; and supporting new opportunities for community members to connect, learn and get active.

Council’s contribution of $78,346 for the first round of grants this year, alongside community contributions, will deliver $234,693 in total value (across the 17 projects) to local communities across Golden Plains Shire and it is estimated that community volunteers will contribute 1,702 hours to the grant projects.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said Council is committed to supporting the community through the Community Strengthening Grants program which has been granting funding to local projects for 26 years.

“Council is thrilled to have awarded a total of $78,336 in grants to help support and deliver the 17 community projects funded in Round One of the 2022 program.

“Council’s Community Strengthening Grants are a valuable source of financial support for projects and programs in Golden Plains, led by our hard-working local community groups and residents.

“The projects funded by the Community Strengthening Grants directly benefit the people and communities of Golden Plains, and I look forward to seeing and enjoying the finished projects across the Shire.”
