Rokewood

On Friday 4 February, Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble joined Michaela Settle MP, Member for Buninyong, and Members of the Rokewood/Corindhap Football Netball Club for a significant announcement to fund the new $3.96 million Rokewood Community Hub.

The project will deliver, design and construct a new community hub at the Rokewood Recreation Reserve in McMillian Street, Rokewood. The facility will have multi-use meeting rooms, change spaces and public amenities, creating the community space for local events, activities and boost sporting participation in Rokewood.

The Rokewood Community Hub will be delivered with $3.5 million from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, $442,000 from Golden Plains Shire Council and $18,000 from the Rokewood Recreation Reserve Committee of Management.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble welcomed the Victorian Government’s commitment to Rokewood and the centre of Golden Plains Shire.

“The Rokewood Community Hub will deliver a first-class facility for local sporting clubs and communities of Rokewood and the centre of Golden Plains Shire. Council is pleased to welcome $3.5 million from the Growing Suburbs Fund, our third funding consecutive funding commitment from this valuable program.”

Quotes attributable to Michaela Settle, Member for Buninyong:

“The Rokewood Recreation Reserve is the beating heart of Rokewood and to see a $3.96 million community hub built at this site will be absolutely amazing. It will bring together the community as they share these new spaces, and I know that all the local sporting clubs will relish the brand-new facilities.”

This is the third consecutive round of Growing Suburbs Fund support for Golden Plains Shire, with delivery underway on the Golden Plains Youth Hub and the Ross Creek Play and Active Rec Upgrade.

The $3.5 million commitment is the largest single grant ever secured by Golden Plains Shire Council.

Since its establishment in 2015, the Growing Suburbs Fund has facilitated more than $1.07 billion in local infrastructure, created more than 10,200 jobs and supported 299 projects across the fastest peri-urban growth areas in Victoria.
