Fun fact about a special tree in Bannockburn

Bannockburn

Did you know the crochet-adorned tree on the corner of High and Milton Streets in Bannockburn represents a part of Victoria’s royal history?

On 6 March 1954, the Queen and Prince Phillip made their way from Geelong to Ballarat as part of an Australian tour. We don’t know if they actually stopped in Bannockburn but this tree was planted by the Country Women’s Association to commemorate the day.

The Queen became the first reigning monarch to visit Geelong in 1954, when she alighted from the Royal Train at South Geelong station, accompanied by Prince Philip.

How’s this for a fun fact!
