Golden Plains Shire Council has partnered with the Victorian and Australian Governments to present the Golden Plains Community Fairs.

An extension of the Shire’s popular market events in the north and south of the Shire, the Golden Plains Community Fairs will provide a family-friendly, fun day out, with live music, delicious food and market stalls. The fair will be held from 10am to 3pm, Saturday 2 April, alongside the Golden Plains Farmers’ Market, corner of High and Market Streets, Bannockburn; and from 10am to 3pm, Saturday 16 April, at the Smythesdale Country Market at the Smythesdale Historic Precinct.

The Bannockburn event will include exciting live performances from the Peter Chapman Duo and Jonathon Chandler, a pedal kart course and circus workshop, plus a variety of food and beverage offerings and more than 40 Golden Plains Farmers’ Market stall holders.

As part of the community fair, the Bannockburn CFA will host its annual Good Friday Appeal to help raise funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital. The CFA’s Good Friday Appeal activities will include an on-stage dance-off and the chance for community members to try their hand at target practice with the fire hose.

In Smythesdale, community members will enjoy performances by the Mik Maks, mini golf and a visit from the Easter Bunny, alongside a range of local food vendors and everyone’s favourite Smythesdale Country Market stallholders

In addition to the festivities, the community fairs will provide an opportunity for the community to learn about living in a bushfire prone area, bushfire preparedness, and the Shire’s local emergency services. Representatives from local emergency services including the CFA, SES and Victoria Police will attend the fairs, alongside their trucks and vehicles, to discuss the important role they play in the community and how we can all stay prepared for emergencies.

The Golden Plains Community Fairs are supported by the Victorian Government and Commonwealth Government, funded by a Community Events grant under the Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble says the Golden Plains Community Fairs are set to be a fun-filled day for the whole family.

“It’s been terrific to see the return of events in Golden Plains over the last few months and the Golden Plains Community Fairs are a chance for our community to come together and enjoy the best of what the Shire has to offer.

“The community fairs will be a great, fun day out, and also a valuable opportunity to celebrate our local emergency services and have discussions about the important work that they do in our bushfire-prone communities.

“Bushfire preparedness is essential to life in Golden Plains and it’s great to be working with two popular local events to bring this message to the forefront. I encourage all Shire residents to attend these wonderful events and to stop by for a chat with emergency services as they enjoy the festivities.”
