Free Preventative Breast Cancer Screening for Women

Breast Cancer Screening 2024
Health & Wellbeing

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Council has partnered with Breast Screen Victoria to host a free event at the Ballarat BreastScreen clinic for local women aged between 40 and 74 to have their regular mammogram screening.

Women are invited to register for the event, which in addition to a breast screen mammogram appointment (performed by female radiologists), will include:

  • Transport from Bannockburn and Smythesdale into Ballarat.
  • Refreshments
  • A social wellness activity hosted by Council staff.

The event at Ballarat BreastScreen will be held on Tuesday 5 March from 10am to 12pm. Participants will be picked up and dropped off at The Heart, 11 Milton St, Bannockburn and at The Well, 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.

Due to availability of mammogram appointments, places are limited to 15 people and registrations close at 11pm on Sunday 3 March.

Additional transport options are available to help residents get to pick up points. Please call 5220 7111 or email [email protected] if you require assistance.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said the annual health program helped local women overcome the transport and cost barriers to having regular breast screens.

We encourage eligible women to register to take part in this important program, which is a free health initiative designed to support community health and wellbeing,” Cr Cunningham said.
