Footpath upgrades were recently completed in Linton, Lethbridge and Teesdale as part of Council’s Footpath Renewal Program.

The recent works included the upgrade of high foot traffic areas in Linton and Lethbridge, with the footpaths at Linton Primary School and 96-92 Sussex Street, Linton sealed, and drainage improvements and sealing works completed at 39-43 Russell Street, Lethbridge. In Teesdale, a completed footpath extension at a new estate located at 11 Caladenia Street will allow for increased traffic movement.

The $97,766.83 footpath upgrade project was fully funded by Council.

Council regularly works to identify upgrade projects, like the footpath works recently completed, through hazard inspections, accident statistics and feedback from the community, as well as in locations where there are increased traffic movements around schools, recreation and community facilities or new developments that create increased pedestrian movements.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said Council is committed to delivering safer footpaths for pedestrians throughout Golden Plains Shire.

“Pedestrian safety improvements are a top priority for communities across the Shire and Council is committed to delivering well maintained, connected and accessible crossings and paths to support healthy and active living in Golden Plains.

“In addition to the recent upgrades, Council meets regularly with the Department of Transport to advocate for pedestrian and road safety improvements on their roads. At the July Council Meeting, we endorsed a number of road safety projects to strengthen these advocacy opportunities. The identified pedestrian safety improvements include works in Scarsdale, Linton and Smythesdale as part of the Northern Streetscapes Framework, as well as the installation of pedestrian crossings on High Street, Bannockburn and Main Road, Teesdale, and proposed speed limit reductions across the Shire.”

Other recent pedestrian safety projects completed across the Shire include the installation of a raised pedestrian crossing at the roundabout on Milton Street, west of High Street in Bannockburn and the completion of footpath connections at the new Bannockburn entrance roundabout on Clyde Road and Geelong Road.
