Flood Recovery Update

Flood Recovery

Council is working to support residents impacted by the recent significant flooding event.

Since the event occurred, more than 50 residents who lodged requests with the SES and with Council have been contacted, and Council is working to support them through the flood recovery.

Council is encouraging any residents impacted by the flooding who have not been in contact with Council or the SES to contact the Customer Experience team on 5220 7111.

As flood waters recede, residents are seeing the significant impact of the floods, with debris and damage to roads and infrastructure. Council Officers are working to clean-up and repair damage as quickly as possible, but we ask for patience given the size of the task.

Community members wishing to report debris or road damage are encouraged to contact Council’s Customer Experience team on 5220 7111, by email at [email protected]. Reports or through the online Submit a Request portal

The Victorian Government have also set up a Flood Recovery hotline to help support residents impacts by flooding. The hotline offers mental health and wellbeing, and financial support, access to temporary accommodation and registration for clean-up on private property.

Contact the Flood Recovery Hotline at 1800 560 760.

Road closures

The following roads remain closed across Golden Plains Shire:

  • Werneth Road
  • Kellys Road, Grenville
  • Linton-Piggoreet Road, from Golden Lake Road to Old Pittfield Road

Stay up to date

With more rain expected over the coming weekend, Council is encouraging residents to stay up to date via the VicEmergency website or app here.

Sandbag stations

Residents seeking sandbags for the forecasted rain this weekend are encouraged to submit a request for sandbags to the SES by contacting 132 500.
To assist residents, Council is also re-establishing sandbag stations in Inverleigh, Shelford and Smythesdale.

  • Inverleigh Bowls Club Car park, Railway Street, Inverleigh
  • Heales Street, Smythesdale between The Well and the church
  • Shelford Public Hall, Thompson Street, Shelford

In flood emergencies, Council provides sand for use in sandbags and the SES provide sandbags. Due to the flood event last week, the SES are facing a state-wide shortage of sandbags.

Council is able to provide a limited supply of sandbags at each sandbag station location, however, we are not able to guarantee an ongoing supply. Residents in high-risk flood areas, are encouraged to contact the SES directly to request sandbags by calling 132 500.
