Golden Plains Shire Council is seeking feedback from the community about the future of tracks and trails within Golden Plains to guide the development of the Golden Plains Tracks and Trails Strategy.

The Tracks and Trails Strategy (the strategy) will provide strategic direction for future advocacy and investment in a trail network to encourage safe, active transport.

The Strategy will identify improvements to existing infrastructure and propose new tracks and trail connections in and between communities to improve the liveability and recreational opportunities within the Golden Plains Shire. Consideration will be given to other trail-based activities such as horse riding and mountain biking.

Residents are invited to have their say on existing tracks, trails, linkages and future opportunities by completing the online survey available on Council’s website, or by attending one of the two in-person workshops to be held at The Well on Wednesday 15 February from 5.30 until 6.30pm and at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre on Thursday 16 February from 5.30 until 6.30pm. An online workshop will also be held on Tuesday 21 February from 5.30 until 6.30pm.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham encouraged residents to complete the survey and share their thoughts on the future of tracks and trails within Golden Plains.

“The Tracks and Trails Strategy will guide Council’s future advocacy and investment in a trail network and help to increase active transport in Golden Plains.

“Improvements to tracks and trails across the shire will allow for more local residents and visitors to explore and enjoy our region.

“Council was delighted to secure $30,000 from the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure fund which will be matched by Council to make the Tracks and Trails Strategy a reality.”

The survey is open from Monday 30 January until Sunday 26 February 2023 and can be completed online at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations.
Printed copies of the survey are available at Council’s Customer Hubs, Golden Plains Civic Centre, 2 Pope Street Bannockburn and The Well, 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale.

The $60,000 Golden Plains Shire Tracks and Trail Strategy Project was funded by $30,000 from the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund’s Planning Category and $30,000 from Council.
