Emergency Preparedness Works Travel Permit

General

Following the Victorian Government’s announcement on Sunday 18 October, Golden Plains Shire property owners living in Metropolitan Melbourne are able to apply with Council to travel to their property to complete emergency preparedness works.

If approved, non-resident property owners will receive a Letter of Support from Council which will act as a permit to travel, along with a letter from the Victorian Chief Health Officer outlining their responsibilities and the penalties for failing to abide by the conditions of the letter.

The permit will allow access to Golden Plains Shire for a 72-hour period, and can only be used to complete fire or flood emergency preparedness works. All Melbourne-based property owners will be subject to their local COVID-19 rules and restrictions during their time in Golden Plains Shire.

Property owners must be able to stay overnight on their property or complete the works in one day, as staying with friends, family or at a regional accommodation provider is not permitted under current restrictions.

In the application form, applicants will be required to provide:

  • Owner’s details;
  • Address of the property where emergency preparedness works will be undertaken;
  • What works are intended to be completed (reducing bushfire/grassfire loads or reducing impacts of flooding);
  • The period of intended travel, including dates of travel and duration of stay by the owner; and
  • Any other members of their household who will also be attending to undertake works.

The application form is now available on Council’s website at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/fire. Completed application forms must be sent to [email protected]. Property owners with further questions can contact Council’s Community Safety team at 5220 7111.

Certified by the Chief Executive Officer in accordance with Council’s Election Period Policy.
