The Don Wallace Recreation Reserve Teesdale Masterplan 2022 (the Masterplan) was adopted by Golden Plains Shire Council at its meeting on Tuesday 25 October.

The Masterplan provides a guide for the future improvement and development of the Don Wallace Recreation Reserve to respond to the changing needs of the user groups and the broader, growing community while also addressing functional issues.

Developed following extensive consultation with the Don Wallace Recreation Reserve Committee of Management, Teesdale Grassy Woodlands Committee, key user groups, representatives from the Teesdale Primary School, Council staff and the broader Golden Plains community, the Masterplan will inform strategic planning for the Reserve for the next ten years from 2022 to 2032.

The Masterplan provides clear and prioritised recommendations including improved directional signage, traffic movement, parking and landscaping; upgraded changerooms; redevelopment of the oval, cricket nets and hard surfaces; removal of the existing public toilet block to be relocated to the proposed changeroom development; and upgrading of the play space.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said the adoption of the Don Wallace Recreation Reserve Masterplan will guide the future development of the reserve to meet the needs of the growing community.

“Council is excited to adopt the Don Wallace Recreation Reserve Masterplan and we thank all of the community members who shared their valuable input during its development.

“As Teesdale continues to grow, it is important to have a plan in place to guide the growth of the Don Wallace Recreation Reserve which is utilised by so many different local user groups from the local cricket, football and tennis clubs, to the primary school, and the local Teesdale residents, including myself.

“The Masterplan will provide increased opportunity for residents from Teesdale and surrounding townships to engage in physical activity and participate in a variety of sports.

“This Masterplan will be a valuable resource for Council as we advocate for funding opportunities to make these recommendations a reality.”

Council welcomes an election commitment from the Labor Party to invest up to $1.5 million towards new female-friendly change rooms at the Don Wallace Recreation Reserve if the Australian Labor Party wins the state election on 26 November.

The election commitment was announced by Member for Buninyong, Michaela Settle MP at the Don Wallace Recreation Reserve on Tuesday 18 October.
