Disability Action Plan - Have Your Say

Disability Action Plan
Active Ageing & Inclusion

Council invites Golden Plains Shire community members to share their thoughts and have their say on the updated Disability Action Plan 2025-2029 (the Plan).

Designed as a blueprint for fostering a more inclusive and accessible environment for living, working, and recreation, the Plan outlines key actions aimed at breaking down barriers faced by people with disabilities.

In alignment with the broader vision for Golden Plains Shire, Council is also looking to align the Plan with its Community Vision 2040, Council Plan 2025-2029, Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan 2025-2029 and the State Disability Action Plan 2022-2026.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said a key focus of the Plan was to ensure people with disabilities and their care givers are fully supported to participate in all aspects of community life.

“A truly engaged community is one that creates opportunities and inclusivity for everyone. This updated Disability Action Plan empowers us to establish clear objectives and goals, paving the way for people with disabilities to lead fulfilling and happy lives in Golden Plains Shire now and into the future,” Cr Cunningham said.

Council has been consulting the community through community workshops and the Active, Ageing and Inclusion Advisory Committee throughout March. Community members are also encouraged to contribute to the development of the Disability Action Plan through a Have Your Say survey which opens on Friday 22 March and closes on Thursday 11 April 2024.

The survey can be completed online at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations or hard copies can be collected from Council’s Customer Hubs at 2 Pope Street, Bannockburn or The Well, 19 Hughes Street, Smythesdale.

Hard copies can be returned by email to [email protected] or by mail to Golden Plains Shire Council, PO Box 111, Bannockburn, VIC 3331 – marked ‘Attention: Disability Action Plan’.

The updated draft plan will be presented to Council for endorsement in June 2024, followed by further community consultation. Council will then consider the final plan for adoption at its September 2024 meeting.
