Bannockburn

Golden Plains Shire Council has welcomed the news that the Midland Highway and Clyde Road intersection in Bannockburn will be upgraded as part of the joint Federal and Victorian Government infrastructure package announced today.

Part of the $525 million joint package to deliver works across Victoria, $6.5 million has been allocated to fund Regional Roads Victoria’s planned roundabout at the busy intersection. The Federal Government will contribute $5.2 million, with the Victorian Government funding the remaining $1.3 million of the project.

The Midland Highway is an important transport link that connects Golden Plains Shire to the state’s second and third largest cities, providing residents with easy access to services and jobs. As the population of the Shire continues to grow, Golden Plains Shire Council has been active in lobbying for improvements to the Midland Highway and other important transport routes.

Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey welcomed the funding commitment to upgrade the intersection.

“Today’s announcement of $6.5 million of Federal and Victorian funding for Regional Roads Victoria’s safety upgrade of the Midland Highway and Clyde Road intersection is great news for Golden Plains Shire residents and businesses that use this stretch of road every day.”

“This intersection has long been a safety concern for local residents, who will be pleased to hear this project is one step closer to reality. Council looks forward to the Federal and Victorian Governments working together to deliver this much needed intersection upgrade as quickly as possible.”

“Improving transport connectivity across Golden Plains Shire, and from the Shire to Ballarat and Geelong, is vital to the meet the demands of our communities and is essential to managing the growth of the region. Bannockburn is one of the fastest growing regional areas in Victoria, and Council will continue its strong advocacy for more infrastructure commitments from both Federal and Victorian Governments.”
