Rokewood will benefit from improved mobile connectivity with the Federal Government announcing funding to establish a Macro Mobile site in the town.

As part of funding for Round 3 of the Regional Connectivity Program (RCP), the Federal Government has committed $660,793 towards establishing a Macro Mobile site in Rokewood which will provide improved handheld coverage and capacity to the area.

During the process, Council facilitated a discussion between Telstra and Golden Plains Wind Farm developer TagEnergy who agreed to help fund the project. This was key to the successful Regional Connectivity Program bid. Council will now work with Telstra and TagEnergy to determine a site that will provide the maximum benefit for local businesses, residents and the Golden Plains Wind Farm workforce.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said the project would provide telecommunications benefits for residents, visitors and businesses in Rokewood.

This is a great initiative for the residents and businesses in Rokewood who will benefit from the improved connectivity through the Telstra network,” Cr Cunningham said.

TagEnergy Managing Partner Australia Andrew Riggs said the new infrastructure will help connect the local community through improved telecommunications.

This is a great example of how the TagEnergy Community Benefits Program can assist the Rokewood and District communities with the delivery of important telecommunications infrastructure and improve the working conditions and worker safety on the Golden Plains Wind Farm site,” Mr Riggs said.

In total, the Federal Government is investing $170.2 million to deliver 136 projects nationally, as part of its ongoing work to narrow the digital divide for rural, regional, and First Nations communities.

Part of the Government’s $1.1 billion Better Connectivity Plan, the successful projects will boost regional, rural and remote connectivity by providing a range of technology upgrades – including fixed wireless, mobile voice and data, optical fibre and free public wi-fi solutions.
