Golden Plains Shire Council has welcomed the announcement of an additional $769,282 in funding under Phase 4 of the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.

The latest allocation of funding adds to the $1,333,655 that Council has already received under Phase 4 of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program, bringing the total funding allocation under Phase 4 to over $2.2 million.

The funding will be available to Councils from July 2023 and Golden Plains Shire Council will identify local projects meeting the funding requirements and submit these to the Federal Government for approval.

The additional $250 million investment is available to Councils classified as rural, regional or outer-urban to spend on road projects.
Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham thanked the Australian Government for the additional $769,282 in funding for Golden Plains.

“The additional funding will allow Council to prioritise road upgrades to improve our local road networks and deliver critical infrastructure for the community.

“Council is committed to restoring its road networks following the unprecedented flooding events in 2022, and this vital funding will go a long way in supporting Council to deliver the much-needed upgrades and repairs across the Shire. Council will now identify and prioritise local projects and submit these to the Federal Government for approval once funds are available in July 2023.

“The Local Roads and Infrastructure Program has supported vital investment to Councils across Victoria and this funding is particularly important for regional and rural municipalities that have the greatest need for road upgrades and priority infrastructure in smaller townships.

“Over the first three phases of the LRCI program, Council has received $5.5 million in funding which has funded a wide range of projects across the Shire.
“Council thanks the Australian Government for its commitment to the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and its support of regional, rural and outer-urban Council’s.”

The Australian Government’s LRCI program supports local Councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia, supporting jobs and the resilience of local economies to help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.
