Golden Plains Shire Council has welcomed the allocation of $250,000 from the Victorian Government’s 2022-23 Country Football and Netball Program for the much-anticipated upgrade of the oval at Don Wallace Recreation Reserve in Teesdale.

Member for Eureka Michaela Settle MP visited Teesdale on Wednesday 28 June to announce $250,000 for the oval upgrade in addition to $1.5 million from the State Budget for the development of new female-friendly changerooms at the reserve.

The oval upgrade aims to enhance the existing facilities and will include resizing the oval, subsurface irrigation and drainage, new perimeter fencing, and new shelters and goal posts. Council will contribute $400,000 to complete the upgrade which is projected to be completed in late 2024.

Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said the significant funding announcements and works would modernise Don Wallace Recreation Reserve and support milestones set out in the Don Wallace Recreation Reserve Teesdale Masterplan 2022.

Council is pleased to welcome these exciting funding announcements, and we thank the State Government for their ongoing commitment to projects like these in Golden Plains Shire.

The upgrades to the change rooms will have a positive impact on the community by increasing accessibility and promoting inclusion, while also attracting new users to the reserve. The proposed oval upgrade will also have many benefits including improving pedestrian and parking access around the oval.

The Don Wallace Recreation Reserve Teesdale Masterplan 2022 aligns with Council’s vision for sport and active recreation and ensures that the long-term development aspirations of the tenant clubs, community groups and residents are taken into consideration.

Council will continue to advocate for further funding opportunities to continue upgrades for the reserve which will deliver benefits for Teesdale and surrounding townships now and into the future.
