The Draft Moorabool River Reserve Masterplan (the Draft Masterplan) was endorsed by Golden Plains Shire Council at its meeting on Tuesday 25 July for a period of further community consultation.
Community engagement for the Draft Masterplan was undertaken during November 2022 with a mail out survey, online survey, community meeting and a community walk at the Reserve. Responses from community members provided information on the Reserve’s natural assets, key issues, preferred uses of the Reserve and recreational opportunities. A site walk with Wadawurrung representatives was also undertaken to investigate traditional custodian interests and opportunities regarding the future management of the Reserve.
The Draft Masterplan has been developed following the community engagement process, and Council will seek further community feedback from Wednesday 26 July to Wednesday 16 August before the Masterplan is finalised and presented at a Council meeting later this year.
Golden Plains Shire Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said it was important the local Batesford community and people from surrounding areas had an opportunity to provide further input on the Draft Masterplan.
The release of the Draft Moorabool River Reserve Masterplan for further community engagement is the next step in ensuring the plan is widely understood and supported by the local community.
The Draft Masterplan will guide the proper management of the Moorabool River Reserve, as it outlines the future management directions for the Reserve and identifies where resources are required to achieve the Masterplan’s key outcomes and protecting the natural environment for future generations to enjoy.
I encourage residents to read the Draft Masterplan and provide additional feedback to ensure the plan addresses all community and environmental needs.
The Draft Masterplan can be viewed online at goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations or hard copies can be requested from Council’s Natural Resources Officer. Community members can also provide feedback through an online survey until 5pm, Wednesday 16 August 2023.
Council has organised a community meeting to discuss the Draft Masterplan at the Batesford Community Hall on Tuesday 8 August at 7.30pm.
