Council Adopts Arts and Culture Strategy

Arts, Culture & Heritage

Following extensive community consultation earlier this year, Council adopted its Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy 2022-2026 at its November meeting.

The Golden Plains Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy 2022-2026 (Strategy) was adopted by Council at its meeting on 23 November 2021. The Strategy responds directly to the relevant strategic objectives of the Council Plan 2021-2025, in line with the Golden Plains Community Vision 2040, promoting understanding and celebration of the Shire’s Indigenous heritage, rich histories and creative future.

The Strategy details four clear strategic directions, with a specific list of key actions for each and will ensure that arts, culture and heritage initiatives directly and measurably contribute to connected and resilient communities in Golden Plains over the next four years, with strong links to positive health and wellbeing and economic development outcomes.

The Strategy was developed from extensive community consultation throughout 2021. A dedicated Community Reference Group guided the development of the Strategy, while Council also held six community workshops with a total of 40 participants and 35 residents shared their ideas via a paper and online survey in May and June.

The Draft Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy 2022-2026 was placed on public exhibition during October, following its endorsement by Council at its meeting on 28 September 2021. During the exhibition period, there were no submissions received.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble says Council appreciated the community input, which was vital in the development of the Strategy.

“Council is pleased to have adopted the Golden Plains Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy 2022-2026. We are confident that following the extensive community consultation that went into the development of this Strategy, it is a true reflection of our vibrant and creative local communities and supports their future in the Shire.

“I’d like to thank all of the community members who provided input into this Strategy through attending workshops or completing the survey, as well as the Community Reference Group who dedicated their time and energy to work collaboratively with Council and guide the development of this Strategy.

“The Strategy is a clear plan of priorities to strengthen arts, culture and heritage projects and initiatives across the Shire. It is a plan to enrich our lives and connections with place and environment, as well as strengthen pride in our Shire, its history and people. We look forward to getting started on delivering quality outcomes in our Golden Plains’ creative communities.”

The adopted Golden Plains Arts, Culture and Heritage Strategy 2022-2026 is now available on Council’s Have Your Say page.
