Community Impact Award Nominees 2021

Council congratulates the Community Impact Award nominees for the Golden Plains Shire Council Community Awards 2021.

The Golden Plains Shire Council (GPSC) Community Awards 2021 are an opportunity to formally acknowledge extraordinary individuals and community groups who make an outstanding contribution to Golden Plains Shire.

This year, an impressive field of local residents and community groups have been nominated by their fellow community members for awards in four categories: Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, and Community Impact Award.

Congratulations to the five nominees for the GPSC Community Impact Award 2021:

Advance Meredith Association

The Advance Meredith Association (AMA) are a dedicated and committed community group who continuously work to celebrate and support the community of Meredith. During 2021, AMA coordinated the Connected Kindness Project to help support the Meredith community during periods of lockdown and social isolation. The project aimed to bring solicitude to the Meredith community, with AMA volunteers working hard to create and distribute kindness packages across the community. Congratulations Advance Meredith Association!

Bannockburn Inclusive Disabled & Seniors Group

The Bannockburn Inclusive Disabled & Seniors Group have continuously worked to connect their community and provide a supportive and all-embracing environment. Throughout 2021, the Group undertook ‘All Inclusive – Coffee Catch Up’s’ at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre. The group have been very successful in engaging their community and have shown outstanding leadership to connect a wide range of cultural community members. Meredith History Interest Group

The Meredith History Interest Group (MHIG) are a devoted and enthusiastic community group who work to showcase the history of Meredith in a fun and captivating way. The Group launched the book Pubs & Publicans of Meredith 1840-1960 in October, with locals volunteering to play the roles of past publicans of Meredith and tell their stories. The MHIG continue to successfully showcase authenticity and commitment to the community. Congratulations Meredith History Interest Group!

Rokewood/Corindhap Community Planning Group

The Rokewood/Corindhap Community Planning Group are a devoted and strong community group who have showcased continued dedication to the communities of Rokewood ad Corindhap. Despite personal challenges in 2021, the group have carried themselves in a strong manner and successfully led applications for many grants to ensure the important work of the Community Planning group was a success. Congratulations Rokewood/Conrindhap Community Planning group!

Woady Yaloak Historical Society

The Woady Yaloak Historical Society is run by volunteers dedicated to preserving the history of the local area, with a welcoming facility located at The Well in Smythesdale. Forming in 1985, the society researches the area of the former Woady Yaloak goldfields and seeks to document and preserve the history by the acquisition and presentation of documentation. The volunteer hours put into the research is invaluable and an enormous credit to the group. Congratulations Woady Yaloak Historical Society!

The GPSC Community Awards 2021 nominees will be recognised, and the award-winners will be named, at an event on Tuesday 25 January. In line with Council’s COVIDSafe plan, event attendance is limited and by invitation.
