Golden Plains Shire Council’s Community Planning program brings residents together to develop and implement initiatives to improve their own communities – and Council is calling on the community to get involved.

Over the next year, six new four-year Community Plans will be delivered for the following towns: Inverleigh, Teesdale, Shelford, Dereel, Linton and Napoleons.

To drive the development and implementation of these new plans, Council is seeking volunteer Community Coordinators who want to make a positive difference in their communities. Community Coordinators are local residents who are passionate about improving their town and who volunteer their time to seeking ideas and input for residents to progress projects and actions for the Community Plan through surveys, interviews and public meetings.

Council’s Community Planning program has produced quality local outcomes in Golden Plains Shire since 1999 and has been described as ‘perhaps the best-known example of community planning’ by The Australian Centre of Excellence for Local Government.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble recognises that locals know best what their communities need and want, and the more engaged community members, the better outcomes for the Community Plans.

“If you are passionate about improving your town and love working on local projects, please consider joining the Community Planning program in your community.”

“As a former Community Coordinator myself, I can personally vouch that this valued volunteer role is a rewarding and worthwhile experience.”

“I encourage all community members to connect with their local Community Plan and take these opportunities to get involved – with the development of one of the six new plans or the implementation of the 17 existing plans across the Shire.”

Local community members interested in becoming a Community Coordinator are encouraged to attend an information session to discuss the Community Planning Program and the role of Community Coordinators at Linton Shire Hall, 68 Sussex Street, on Thursday 16 June at 6.30pm.

To discuss the Community Planning program and Community Coordinators, please contact Council’s Community Partnerships Officer on 5220 7157 or email [email protected]

Residents who are not able to make the commitment as a Community Coordinator, there are still plenty of ways to have a meaningful input into a local Community Plan, including engaging with community meetings and voting on Community Plan initiatives, identifying the top projects for the townships over the next four years.
