Golden Plains Shire Council is once again pleased to deliver an exciting Children’s Week celebration in October with events in Bannockburn and Smythesdale

Children and families can enjoy Council’s fun and free Children’s Week events at the Bannockburn YMCA, 132 Milton Street, Bannockburn from 10.30am to 12.30pm on Saturday 22 October and at The Well, 19 Heales Street, Smythesdale from 11.30am to 1pm on Thursday 27 October.

Held in partnership with the YMCA, the Bannockburn event will allow children to enjoy gymnastics, sensory play and arts, as well as some gardening and planting with the team from Eco Adventure. Free car seat checks and installation will also be available (costs may apply if additional equipment is required).

Children and families in Smythesdale can enjoy songs, activities and stories with the team from Eco Adventure and have the opportunity to plant some seedlings in the community garden.

Children’s Week is a national event held every year during October, giving families and community members the opportunity to recognise the talents, skills, achievements and rights of children.

This year, Children’s Week runs from 22 to 30 October with its theme celebrating the right of all children to a standard of living that supports their wellbeing and healthy development drawn from Article 27 of the United Nations Convention and Rights of the Child.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble says this year’s Children’s Week is a great opportunity for young families in Golden Plains to have fun and celebrate their own and other children.

For Children’s Week Council is delighted to provide events in the north and south of the Shire to provide children from across Golden Plains the opportunity to connect, share and engage in activities that support their wellbeing and healthy development.

The events will deliver a fun-filled celebration of Children’s Week for Golden Plains families and I would encourage all children, and their parents and carers to get involved and make the most of the free activities on offer.

Council’s Children’s Week events are free and open to all children and families in Golden Plains Shire. To learn more and to register, visit: goldenplains.vic.gov.au/events.
