Celebrate and Skate!

Bannockburn

The newly-renovated Bannockburn Skate Park is open so grab your decks and let’s celebrate on Saturday 19 March.

Christine Couzens MP, Member for Geelong, and Senator the Hon. Sarah Henderson will officially open the Bannockburn Skate Park Upgrade at 10.30am, followed by YMCA Scooter and Skate Jams from 11.15am to 1.45pm and a free BBQ from 12 to 1pm.

The opening community event is free at the Bannockburn Skate Park, 3 Moore Street, Bannockburn. Please bring your own skates, scooters and boards. For more information about the opening event, email [email protected].

The Bannockburn Skate Park Upgrade addressed public safety and security issues at the site and wider precinct. New skate elements including quarter pipes, ramps, boxes and rails have been installed, as well as a new shade shelter, drinking fountain, bike racks, lockers, lighting, safety signage, seating and electrical works. Repairs to the existing concrete slab have been completed, with landscaping works now underway.

Landscaping works will commence on Thursday 10 March and be completed before the community celebration on Saturday 19 March. The skate park will remain open while works are undertaken, with the landscaping works to include the installation of a concrete path, instant turf and rock bollarding. To ensure user safety while works continue, some areas may be sectioned off and users must adhere to all signage.

Local young people have been actively involved with the project’s technical and creative design process through consultation last year and engagement with the project’s principal contractor, CONVIC.

The Bannockburn Skate Park Upgrade was a partnership project with the Victorian and Australian Governments. The $449,900 project was funded by a $250,000 Community Safety Infrastructure grant from the Victorian Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program, and $199,900 from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
