Young people in Dereel and surrounding areas are invited to join the Dereel Youth Art Program which will be held at the Dereel Community Hall over six weeks, beginning Saturday 15 October.

Participants of the free art program will be guided by local Dereel artist Glynis Bryden in the art form of Zentangle, which is an easy-to-learn, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. As part of the program, participants will create an individual art piece.

Glynis is a highly regarded local artist with an extensive career in many art forms, including Zentangle. Glynis has worked in many different environments, teaching and sharing her knowledge in school, prisons and within the community.

The Program will include six sessions to be held from 10am to 12pm at The Dereel Community Hall, 14 Swamp Road, Dereel each Saturday for six weeks from Saturday 15 October.

This is the second Youth Art Program Council’s Youth Development team has delivered in 2022, with the first Youth Art Program delivered in Smythesdale in July with local artist Barry Wemyss.

Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble encouraged the young people of Dereel and surrounding areas to take advantage of the fantastic free art program.

“The Dereel Youth Art Program is an opportunity for social interaction and self-expression, and supports young people to explore their own creative ideas in a safe and supported environment with talented local artist Glynis Bryden.

“Council is pleased to be able to deliver a second Youth Art Program for young people in the north of the Shire and are committed to providing a range of programs across the Shire to reach all young people. I look forward to seeing the art pieces that the young people create.

The Dereel Youth Art Program has a maximum capacity of 15 participants and participants must be able to attend each of the six sessions.
