Ambassadors to celebrate Australia Day in Golden Plains Shire

Two official 2020 Australia Day Ambassadors will help celebrate Australia Day at a number of community events across Golden Plains Shire later this month.

Ms Susan Calwell and Mr David Rayner OAM have been designated as Golden Plains Shire’s official Australia Day Ambassadors, and will attend seven of the community’s events to spread the message of national pride and inclusion.

Ms Susan Calwell is a tourism industry expert, and for nearly 20 years was the executive director of Australia’s premier tourism promotion authority, the Melbourne Convention and Tourism Authority and its predecessor, the Melbourne Tourism Authority. Ms Calwell will be attending community events in Inverleigh (8am), Bannockburn (9am), Shelford (9.50am) and Teesdale (10.35am).

Mr David Rayner OAM is a classic car parts entrepreneur, and prior to his recent retirement spent almost 40 years in the automotive restoration industry. Mr Rayner OAM will be attending community events in Napoleons (7.30am), Scarsdale (8.30am) and Linton (9.30am).

There are eight community Australia Day events being held on Sunday 26 January across Golden Plains Shire:

Scarsdale

8 to 10am, Scarsdale Town Hall, 23 Scarsdale Pitfield Road, Scarsdale. Hosted by Woady Yaloak Historical Society.

Bannockburn

8.30am to 12pm, Lions Park Bannockburn, Geelong Road, Bannockburn. Hosted by Lions Club of Bannockburn & District.

Teesdale

8 to 10am, Teesdale Public Hall, Shelford-Bannockburn Road, Teesdale. Hosted by the Teesdale Lions Club and Teesdale Community Hall Committee of Management.

Napoleons

7.30am, Napoleons Memorial Hall, 4715 Ballarat-Colac Road, Napoleons. Hosted by the Napoleons & District Historical Society.

Inverleigh

8 to 10.30am, Inverleigh Public Hall, 71 High Street, Inverleigh. Hosted by the Inverleigh Progress Association and Inverleigh Public Hall Committee.

Shelford

8.30 to 11am, Shelford Hall, 16 Mercer Street, Shelford. Hosted by the Shelford Progress Association.

Linton

8 to 10am, Linton Recreation Reserve, off Glenelg Highway, Linton. Hosted by the Linton Community Planners.

Meredith

7.30am to 1.30pm, Pioneer Park, Wilson Street, Meredith. Hosted by the Meredith & District Lions Club.

Golden Plains Shire Council will hold its 2020 Australia Day Awards event and celebration of 20 years of Community Partnerships at 5pm, Tuesday 28 January 2020.
