Have Your Say on Sport and Recreation

Golden Plains Shire Council is partnering with the State Government to develop a new Sport and Active Recreation Strategy and all residents are invited to have their say on the new 10-year plan.

The Sport and Active Recreation Strategy will inform Council’s policy, planning and delivery of sport and active recreation programs, infrastructure and services from 2020 to 2030. This new strategy will replace the current Recreation Strategy 2015-19 and reflect the needs of the Shire’s evolving communities over the next 10 years.

A community survey is now open and all residents are encouraged to share their ideas and opinions on sport and active recreation in Golden Plains Shire, now and into the future:

  • Complete the survey online at: goldenplains.vic.gov.au/consultations
  • Pick up a paper survey at Council’s Customer Service Centres in Bannockburn, Linton and Smythesdale.

Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey encourages residents across the Shire to have their say on the future of sport and active recreation in Golden Plains Shire.

“Last year, we opened a range of great sport and community facilities in Golden Plains including the upgraded Smythesdale Skatepark, new netball courts at Victoria Park in Bannockburn, new oval lighting and new female-friendly change rooms at the Linton Recreation Reserve, and the impressive Bannockburn Heart with the Shire’s first water play space as well as an adventure playground with accessible elements.

“This year, we’ve got many more sport and recreation projects currently under construction in the Shire including the new floor at Haddon Recreation Reserve, new oval lighting at Victoria Park in Bannockburn and Rokewood Recreation Reserve, the second soccer pitch in Bannockburn and the new netball court at Inverleigh.

“Council understands that quality sporting and recreation facilities are very important to our communities and we want to support our townships with places to gather, get active and enjoy a variety of organised sports and casual recreation.

“As we plan the next decade of sport and active recreation projects and programs in our growing Shire, we want input from all residents to ensure the new strategy meets the needs and wants of our Golden Plains community.”
