$500,000 for Teesdale-Lethbridge Road

Media Release

Council has successfully applied for a $500,000 grant from Regional Roads Victoria for vital safety upgrades under its ‘Fixing Country Roads Round 1’ program for a stretch of Teesdale-Lethbridge Road.

These upgrades have been lobbied for by Council for a number of years, following feedback from the local community. The vital upgrades will greatly increase safety for all road users, particularly local residents.

A section of Teesdale-Lethbridge Road will be reconstructed and sealed to cater for increased traffic loading. The section of road will extend approximately 740 metres north of the Shelford – Bannockburn Road. The pavement widening and re-sheet works, along with drainage improvements, will significantly increase the durability of this section of road.

Benefits for the community include increased safety, improved community access, including emergency services, increased traffic capacity, improved heavy vehicle access and increased resilience to changing conditions.

Mayor, Cr Owen Sharkey, says this is a great example of Council listening to the community.

“Council is delighted to receive funding for this vital upgrade, which was not possible within our current Budget,” said Cr Sharkey.

“Community feedback has been strong and consistent around this area of road, and Council has lobbied hard for this funding; we are definitely listening to our residents and ratepayers.

“Community safety is paramount, and these upgrades will support our growing communities.

“The benefits are numerous. We would expect to see increased local employment with the road construction phase, and due to the improved road environment, there will be less wear and tear on vehicles.

“Council would like to thank the State Government for this important recognition and rectification of this issue,” he finished.
