Golden Plains Shire Council invites community groups to apply for up to $5,000 in Council’s 2018/19 Community Grants Program to support the continued improvement and development of Golden Plains’ communities.
Council’s Community Grants Program, which has been run annually since 1996, has granted over $2.2 million in funding, supporting projects from across 30 communities in Golden Plains Shire. The 2017/18 program saw $144,000 in Community Grants issued across 43 community projects.
Grants are provided on a dollar-for-dollar basis, with community groups able to contribute cash or in-kind support to fulfil the matching requirement.
Golden Plains Shire Mayor, Councillor Helena Kirby encourages community groups to look at their local needs, such as their recreation and meeting areas, and think about creative ways to enhance their space or deliver programs that make a difference in the community.
Councillor Kirby said, “A Community Grant can make a huge difference to local community groups with a vision.
“Successful recipients from the 2017-18 program used their grant funds towards a number of wonderful projects, including new jump poles for horse-riding, the enhancement of club rooms, new water tanks, heritage displays, new chairs for community halls, lighting for recreation spaces – the list goes on!
“Communities from all over the Shire, small and large, have benefitted from Community Grants projects – the last program has seen projects rolled out in Teesdale, Inverleigh, Lethbridge, Meredith, Bannockburn, Rokewood, Shelford, Haddon, Linton, Berringa, Maude and more.
“Having been a Councillor for many years now, I have loved to see so many Community Grants projects come to fruition and it has been truly inspiring to see how hard volunteers work on their applications and getting their projects off the ground.
“It is estimated that Council’s investment in Community Grants has delivered a staggering $6.44 million in value to local communities since its launch, and this is something we’re very proud of – we look forward to continuing to support local community groups to deliver their passion projects,” Councillor Kirby said.
To be eligible to apply, organisations must be:

Not-for-profit or equivalent
-
Incorporated or managed as a Council or Crown Committee (otherwise auspice must be provided), and
-
Have no outstanding projects or evaluations from Community Grants pre 2017/18.
