Twenty-three Golden Plains community groups have been awarded COVID-19 Quick Response Community Grants in the program’s second round.
Council awarded a combined $46,036 to the successful groups, with the program’s second round focusing on projects that would activate community spaces and deliver new or existing community programs that comply with COVID-19 restrictions. Applications were open from 15 March to 5 April, and grants were available in three categories: Operating in COVID Environment; Community Engage, Connect and Recover; and Small Halls Activation.
In the second round, grants were received by a diverse field of community groups to support events and programs in all corners of the Shire. Among the 24 successful applications, grants were awarded to the Mannibadar Hall Committee to hold a movie night, the Maude Recreation Reserve Committee to encourage involvement in the township’s community garden, and the Napoleons Enfield Landcare Group Inc to support its Frog Pond Social Plantings initiative.
Mayor Cr Helena Kirby congratulated the recipients and said the program was a great way to support communities recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This grant program is part of our COVID-19 response, and I’m thrilled to see so many groups receiving support from Council to deliver 24 events that will activate our Shire’s small halls and help community life in our townships re-emerge after a challenging year.
“The COVID-19 Quick Response Community Grants are in addition to our regular Community Strengthening Grants Program, and Council thanks the Victorian Government for providing funding for the program so we can offer this additional avenue of support to our local community groups.”
COVID-19 Quick Response Community Grants are designed to fund activities that will assist community groups adapt and recover from the changes brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the program’s first round, 16 community groups shared in $20,899 of grants to fund community projects across Golden Plains Shire.
The program is funded by the Victorian Government’s Community Activation and Social Isolation (CASI) initiative. The CASI program was established to help people maintain important connections with family, friends and community, and to build new social connections and networks of support in local communities during the COVID-19 pandemic and recovery.
