Fire Action Week 2020

General

It’s Fire Action Week, which is a good time to increase your understanding of the fire risk where you live, prepare your property, make an emergency plan and talk to your loved ones about what you'll do to stay safe from fire.

Owners of land are required to keep their properties cut to a maximum height of 300 millimetres during the non-fire season and then to a maximum height of 100 millimetres during the fire danger period, or as directed under a Fire Prevention Notice.

Council will commence its annual property fire hazard inspection program on 2 November 2020. All properties deemed a fire hazard or in need of fire preparedness works will then be issued with a Fire Prevention Notice.

On Sunday, the Victorian Government announced regional property owners living in Metropolitan Melbourne will be able to travel with a permit to regional Victoria in order to prepare their property, with their local COVID-19 rules and restrictions travelling with them. Together with other councils, Golden Plains Shire Council is seeking further guidance from the Victorian Government on how this permit system will operate, and will provide more information later this week.

In the meantime, Melbourne residents who need to undertake fire prevention works on their property in Golden Plains Shire are encouraged to engage a contractor to complete the works.
