Local families put veggies first

Child & Family Services

Across October and November, kindergartens in Golden Plains Shire are participating in the ‘Try for 5’ campaign, run by Nutrition Australia, to get more Australians eating vegetables!

Over 500 kindergarten children from across Golden Plains (aged three and four), will be provided with ‘Master Taste Tester’ placemats and ‘I tried it stickers’, which they can take home for their next family dinner. If you have a child in kindergarten, we encourage you to try out your child’s placemat at your next family meal. Children simply need to place their ‘I tried it sticker’ in the different coloured sections of the placemat depending on the colour of the vegetables, which they taste.

This initiative is all about making vegetables fun and promoting them in a new and engaging way. We know from evidence that increasing children’s exposure to vegetables and positive role modelling from families can help to increase children’s perception of vegetables, making them more likely to eat their veggies!
