About
Council has developed a pedestrian safety improvement project on the Bannockburn-Shelford Road in Teesdale.
The project has been identified as a priority project in the Teesdale Community Plan, and the primary goal of the project is to improve pedestrian safety while accessing the businesses in the township.
As Bannockburn–Shelford Road is an arterial road under Department of Transport and Planning (DTP) management, Council worked with DTP to identify the most effective solution for this location. DTP advised that a pedestrian refuge solution was the most appropriate improvement for this location.
A design that includes several key safety and access improvements has been prepared.
- Pedestrian refuge with mountable kerbs adjacent to the businesses (General Store and Pharmacy).
- A reconfigured car park opposite the General Store to improve access and allow for larger vehicle parking, as well as improved circulation.
- Right-turn lane for access to the car park for vehicles approaching from the east, improving safety.
- New pedestrian access path from the car park to pedestrian crossing point.
