About
Geelong Regional Libraries is reviewing their mobile library services across Golden Plains and are inviting community feedback to help guide its future.
The Golden Plans Mobile Library is an important way to connect communities to library services. Looking forward Geelong Regional Libraries wants to make sure these services continue to meet local needs in a practical way.
Some challenges have been identified that impact the ability to provide consistent and flexible mobile library services. These include fixed visiting schedules, vehicle maintenance affecting service reliability, and the operational requirements of specialised vehicles and licensed drivers.
Engagement Update
The survey was open until Sunday 31 May.
Mobile libraries play an important role in connecting communities to library services.
As part of future planning, Geelong Regional Libraries is exploring how the service can remain reliable, flexible and accessible.
There are some challenges with the current model, including:
- limitations of fixed times and locations
- reliability considerations due to vehicle age and maintenance
This review is an opportunity to explore how we can evolve the service to better meet community needs.
No. Geelong Regional Libraries is not reducing services.
The review is focused on exploring different ways to deliver services that may better suit local communities. This may include options such as pop-up libraries at community facilities (with library staff present), or 24/7 library lockers in smaller towns, allowing residents to collect and return items at convenient times.
Community feedback will help shape what these services look like.
Absolutely. The mobile library continues to operate on its current timetable during this consultation. Nothing changes while feedback is being collected.
All feedback will be compiled into a community summary report. This report will capture your feedback and share the key themes of the engagement to GRLC leadership and Councils to inform their future design and budget planning processes. The outcome of the consultation will also be published on our website.
