The Golden Plains Shire Council Community Awards is an annual event which recognises and celebrates the exceptional contributions made by individuals and groups within our vibrant community. Our community is full of upstanding individuals - from dedicated volunteers and local sporting heroes to community legends and future leaders - all of whom deserve recognition of their invaluable contributions. The Awards highlight the people and groups that make Golden Plains Shire a great place to live, work and socialise.
Engagement Update
Nominations were invited from Wednesday 1 October until 5pm, Friday 28 November in the following categories:
- Community Hero of the Year (all age categories considered for this award)
- Senior Community Hero of the Year (65 years of age and over)
- Young Community Hero of the Year (25 years of age and under)
- Community Group Award (Recognising a community group or team)
We made an exciting change to the Awards this year. Now, every nominee from the three Community Hero categories will be eligible for the Community Hero of the Year Award. This is to ensure that all contributions from people of all ages are recognised and celebrated.
What Happens Next
All nominations will be carefully considered by the selection panel, which includes previous Community Award recipients, Golden Plains Shire Councillors and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
An awards ceremony, scheduled for early 2026, will provide an opportunity to recognise nominees and unveil the Community Award recipients.
Further Information
All nominees for any of the three ‘Community Hero’ award categories, regardless of their age, are eligible to receive the Community Hero of the Year award.
In the event that the remaining nominations do not meet the selection criteria, the assessment panel can determine to not make awards in these categories.
Award recipients will be limited to one award in any 5-year period.
