Standpipes and Bores

Council operates nine mains connected standpipes and four publically accessible bores across the municipality to provide water for stock and domestic supply.

Access to the standpipes operates on a permit system.  Residents can purchase a permit from the permit provider for $30 (2022/23 price), which allows the permit holder to take up to 5,000 litres of water over the period of one month.

The standpipes are connected to the reticulated water supply systems operated by Central Highlands Water and Barwon Water. This is drinking quality water and has to be used in line with the water restrictions enacted by the respective water authorities at the time of taking the water.

Theft of water from standpipes places an unfair burden on the rest of the community, as it is unreasonable to expect ratepayers and honest users to cover the cost of this water. The cooperation of the community is greatly appreciated.

The bores at Wallinduc, Cape Clear and Warrambine are for stock water supply only. Please see below for information relating to the Heinzs Road Napoleons bore.

Heinzs Road Cambrian Hill Bore and Standpipe

The new and improved bore at Heinzs Road, Cambrian Hill is now in operation.

In September 2020, Council closed the old bore, stand and tank on the site due to safety concerns. From 15 December 2020 to 15 January 2021, Council invited Cambrian Hill, Ross Creek and Napoleons residents to have their say on the future of the bore and how they used the water from the old facility. Council received 75 responses from community members, with a strong preference for the bore to be replaced.

Following the feedback, Council committed to the replacement of the bore and works to remove the old bore and install a new pump, tank, fencing and underground drainage were completed in the last three months. The new bore was commissioned on Wednesday 1 December, 2021.
